The Companies Tribunal, in partnership with the University of the Free State’s (UFS) Mercantile Law Department, are co-hosting a virtual annual company law seminar on selected aspects of the Companies Act, 71 of 2008 (the Act). The Companies Tribunal is an agency of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and is responsible for resolution of company disputes.

The seminar is targeted at exploring opportunities for the Companies Tribunal to expand its jurisdiction in term of their mandate and to enable companies and aspirant company owners to understand that the Companies Tribunal is there to assist them with dispute resolution at no cost to them. The seminar will amongst other discuss the following discussion points:
- Business Rescue: Multiple provision, including sections 128 to 153 of the Act
- Schedule 4 Provisions of The Companies Act: particularly the Consumer Protection act 68 of 2008, Close Corporations Act 69 of 1984, Share Blocks Control Act 59 of 1980, and Co-Operatives Act 14 of 2005
- Alternative Dispute Resolution: Current and possible new areas to explore.
The presentation will be delivered by subject experts which includes officials of the dtic agencies, Companies Tribunal members, academics, and other Company Law practitioners. Companies are urged to utilize services of the Companies Tribunal for adjudication and resolution of company disputes. The Companies Tribunal services are offered at no cost to parties.
