The seminar will take place as follows:
Date : Thursday, 27 February 2020
Time : 09:00 to 13:00
Venue : Hiddingh Hall, 37 Orange Street Gardens, University of Cape Town
The Companies Tribunal is an agency of the department of Trade and Industry established in terms of section 193 of the Companies Act 71 of 2008 (the Act) to adjudicate applications made in terms of the Act and provide Alternative Dispute Resolution for companies. It has jurisdiction throughout the Republic of South Africa; performs its functions impartially and without fear, favour or prejudice and in a transparent manner.
The seminar is aimed at engaging stakeholders on the role of the Tribunal in the corporate law landscape in South Africa through discussing four types of applications:
- Social and Ethics Committee exemptions in terms of section 72;
- Name Disputes in terms of sections 11 and 160;
- Alternative Dispute Resolution in terms of section 166; and
- Directorship Disputes in terms of section 71.
The seminar is intended to attract law practitioners, the business fraternity, academics and the Judiciary. Stakeholders are urged to utilize services of the Tribunal when resolving company disputes because they are free of charge and offered speedily as opposed to going to court.
