Annual Seminar on the crucial provisions of the Companies Act 71 of 2008

The Companies Tribunal, an agency of the dtic, tasked with the resolution of company disputes, in partnership with the University of the Free State’s (UFS) Mercantile Law Department, are co-hosting the annual company law seminar on selected aspects of the Companies Act, 71 of 2008 (the Act).

The seminar will discuss opportunities for the Companies Tribunal to expand its jurisdiction within the ambit of the Companies Act, by exploring the following:

  • Business Rescue: Various provisions, including Sections 128 to 153 of the Companies Act.
  • Schedule 4 provisions of the Companies Act, particularly those relating to the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, Close Corporations Act 69 of 1984, Share Blocks Control Act 59 of 1980, and Co-operatives Act 14 of 2005.
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution: current and possible new areas to explore.

The topics will be delivered by the subject experts that include officials of the dtic agencies, Tribunal Members, academics, and other Company Law practitioners.

Who should attend:

The seminar is targeting various stakeholders such as company law practitioners, shareholders and directors of companies, the Judiciary, and academics and students of company law.
